Early Season - February 2008Well it's February and the weather seems a far cry from the sultry summer days we're used to, so whilst we patiently wait for the season to be upon us I thought I'd highlight a few events which will be forthcoming this quarter. The first is a pre-season work shop which is being held on the 14th – 15th March 2008 at the Peat Spade Inn called “Saltwater Fly Fishing – At Home & Away”. Presenting, will be myself, Howard Taylor from www.upstreamdryfly.com and Peter McLeod from www.aardvarkmcleod.com. This will be an informal evening over dinner covering the many aspects of Saltwater fly fishing whether it be Atlantic Bass, Striper Bass or more tropical species like Bonefish and Permit. I have included the events link from Howard’s website which lists the itinerary and booking details – this will be an informative and fun evening over good food and refreshments at the Peat Spade Inn so I hope you can join me there (see link for contact details: www.upstreamdryfly.com/events.php The second is the Meon Springs event held by Orvis every year, the date for this is April 20th 2008. This is always a great opportunity to test their latest rods and refine your casting techniques, look out for the new Zero Gravity Helios range which is now available across the U.K. I used an 8 weight and 10 weight in Connecticut last year for Stripers and False Albacore and they really are in a class of their own (see www.orvis.com/helios. Last years event saw many of their Endorsed Guides speak on their favoured subjects and the event this year will be just as enjoyable. The season on the South coast here will be kicking off on 1st March for Casting Instruction which has proved very popular over the last few years and we start guiding from April. Bookings have been brisk with over 35% of slots already taken so just let me know if you require the spread sheet and I’ll send through accordingly. Those of you who have booked, please ensure your booking slips and deposits are returned to me on the address provided. Lastly Connecticut is scheduled on September 23rd 2008 so if you wish to find out a little more about the fishery on the Eastern seaboard I have hung a “Fact File” on the website for you to look at (see www.bass-fishing.co.ukhttps://www.bass-fishing.co.uk/en/hosted_bass_trips.php?osCsid=t67ql181k3qemfeq8sim2nu1k1) . This will be hosted by myself and our guides are Dan Woods and Ed Mitchell, great people working in a top class fishery so expect to get hooked! For now that’s it, the water looks cold and with a force 9 knocking on my door it’s probably not the best day for wading but spring is just around the corner and with it comes a new challenge – tight lines to you all.
