Early Season 2011To all those caught by the fly...Well, 2011 has started well and since March 1st we have been helping clients with their double hauling and line speed to enable them to harness the breeze, which is so often present on the coast . The first guiding for Sea Bass starts in the next week and these high ambient levels which have been present this month should be starting to raise the water temperatures, although at the moment it’s still pretty chilly in there so if you’re wandering onto the intertidal zone for a crack at an early fish, look for areas under foot which when exposed to heat may well hold temperatures better than other areas, this will encourage fry and other forage food to congregate which in turn may well pull the Bass into casting range. Since September, I have been working on the new website which has recently been launched and offers information to the Salt water fly fishing enthusiast for not only booking information for those looking for a day’s guiding but also there is a new “On-line” shop which offers for sale the kit I use on a daily basis which I hope you’ll find interesting and useful. The rods reels, lines & flies have been designed by me and manufactured to produce what I hope offers high quality, tough, durable saltwater kit at reasonable prices. The first trip to Connecticut USA is in mid June this season as we are specifically targeting the larger female Striped Bass which tend to show early on in the season throughout the main squid run – so fingers crossed for a good fish – the Autumn trip is scheduled for September into October and our main target species are Stripers and False Albacore which showed last year in good numbers and size…. the largest Bass was between 25-30 lbs and False Alborcore hitting 14lbs which were terrific fun. The Orvis events this season have been successful at both Blenheim and Meon Springs with the great weather bringing thousands more enthusiasts than ever before. One date for the forthcoming calendar for 2011 will be the CLA Gamefair at Blenheim Palace which is scheduled for 22nd, 23rd, & 24th July – at which I have very kindly been invited by the selection committee to join their casting team over the 3 day event – so fingers crossed I will see you there, either in the Public arena or on fisherman’s row where I will have a stand. Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, 22 - 24 July 2011 For now, let’s hope the weather is kind, the wind keeps low and the fish once again return to our South coast where we’ll be waiting rod in hand, belly button deep in surf and Deceiver at the ready. Good luck to you all. Kind Regards Justin Anwyl IGFA Saltwater Guide Email info@bass-fishing.co.uk Tel: 07767 820268 |
