Early Season 2005“To all those caught by the fly !” To those of you who have been already this season and those who are pending a trip, just a short mail to keep you posted as to this season’s progress to date . It’s been a very mild winter which will have given the Bass a good head start for the coming season . I’ve been informed that numbers of very good quality Bass have been taken off two marks all winter, one of which is off Hayling Island sands only a stone’s throw away from the entrance to Chichester harbour – this bodes well for use as they will no doubt start to forage inshore for the hatching virens in the next few weeks. April has been mild and calm with fish just starting to show towards the latter end of the month – the best fish to date has been just over 3lbs which is encouraging for this time of year . I have managed to negotiate two new marks off Pilsey sands and Thorney island which I will be experimenting with shortly, these new areas look like they have tremendous potential for the summer period – I will keep you posted accordingly . If you weren’t already aware there are some serious noises being made in Whitehall (5th April) regarding making certain areas around our coastline designated for recreational fishing only - in my opinion this may well be the first step to extending the already existing Bass nursery areas as designated by DEFRA . John Leballeur (Chairman of B.A.S.S) has been at the forefront of getting this species recognized as a protected game species, if any of you are interested in this society please refer to the website www.ukbass.com For those of you who have booked, I look forward to seeing you soon, to those of you who are thinking about adding a pinch of salt to your normal fly-fishing diet there are some dates below showing availability for the coming season. Also, for those of you traveling to Spain this year who fancy the “Spanish Angle” for either Atlantic Bass or Black Bass in the mountains – let me know and I’ll forward you prices and contacts accordingly – see picture gallery on the website www.bass-fishing.co.uk Fenton Robinson Mobile: +44 (0)7767 820268 |
